Fishes and Loaves

The Ministry of the Child

FISHES AND LOAVES WEEKLY COLLECTION

The Ministry of the Child

The children of St. Alban’s discovered a favorite gospel lesson from John 6: the miracle of Jesus feeding thousands of hungry people. Our children’s ministry, “Fishes and Loaves,” helps us collect items for local pantries.

The child in the story undergoes a personal transformation. One child has a supper of two fish and five loaves and offers it to Jesus and the disciples. Was this child the only one among thousands who brought food with them? Was this young boy the only one who looked into his basket, saw what he had instead of what he didn’t have, and was willing to take action? The boy recognized the need and knew he had something to share. And so, everyone ate and was filled.

The St. Alban’s community is encouraged to donate items for our weekly collections that can be dropped off inside the church doors at a designated location. A list of food and hygiene items is posted below and in The Red Door e-news, which is published every Friday.

Let’s continue our faithful response to that favorite gospel lesson from John 6: acting in the faith of a child that whatever we bring to Jesus will be enough to meet the needs of those around us.
